5 Days Of Engineering Challenges
Over the years, we have done various types of engineering without really realizing it. None of our projects were part of any curriculum and many were just spur of the moment. We’ve done things like reverse engineering and snap circuits and gum drop structures. They were all fun and all memorable. I started to wonder why we hadn’t done more engineering projects more often.
When To Use Engineering Challenges
I started adding engineering challenges to our schedule this school year. Sometimes, I plan one for first thing in the morning or I might get out some supplies after lunch. Last week, we had an entire morning of engineering challenges. I always include both kids at the same time.
The kids are really enjoying the addition of the engineering challenges. The challenges add some fun to the homeschool day and give them something to look forward to.
What Engineering Challenges Teach
Engineering challenges aren’t just to pass the time or give the kids something extra to do. The challenges teach so many things.
- critical thinking
- problem solving
- teamwork
- how things work
- how materials behave in different situations
- how to fail without giving up
- how to accomplish something
