A Chemistry Game That Makes Learning Fun
*Disclosure. I was given an ION game for review purposes and compensated for my time and this post. However, the opinions are all mine. This post may contain affiliate links.
We play a lot of games in our home. It just makes sense that we should play games during our homeschool experience, as well. So, I am always on the look out for fun, educational games that the whole family will enjoy. Those are hard to come by.
My kids can smell an educational game a mile away and all but refuse to play. The key is to find games that are so much fun that the kids don’t know they are learning. We have a few favorites, and have recently found a chemistry game that is both fun and educational. Yes, I said a fun chemistry game!
ION: A Compound Building Game
Think of ION as Chemistry 101 – only a lot more fun! It is a card game for 2 to 7 players in which the players use strategy and their growing knowledge of chemistry to gain points. As the game progresses, players will learn about individual elements and how they bond with other elements to form compounds. Genius Games recommends ION for ages 8 and up. I’d say that is fair assessment. My 10 year old understands the game and plays it easily.
The graphics on the cards are awesome. My son said they have a dark, mad scientist feel. There is, also, an expansion pack included to kick the game up a level for those wanting an additional challenge. The best thing about ION is that your family will have so much fun playing ION that they won’t realize they are learning. Our kids caught on fast and the games got pretty competitive.
ION is great for chemistry review (as with my 14 year old) and as an introduction to elements (as with my 10 year old son). It takes the fear out of chemistry and makes it fun. What parent or teacher wouldn’t want to make chemistry fun?
