Very few scientific topics stir more debate and passion than that of Creation vs. Evolution. And, fewer topics make minds slam shut at the mention of the opposing idea. It seems people are steadfastly on one side or the other and little can be done to change minds on either side.
Tomorrow evening, Bill Nye, (you know, the “Science Guy”), will be debating Ken Ham. The topic? “Is creation a viable model of origins?” Ken Ham, founder of the Creation Museum and Answers in Genesis President/CEO, will be debating from the viewpoint that creation is a viable explanation of the origins of the universe, while Bill Ney, mechanical engineer and TV host, will be supporting the opposing view. I’m not sure this debate will change minds, but I do believe it will open some.
It doesn’t matter whether you are an evolutionist or a creationist. This should be an interesting event worth watching. It is my hope that everyone will view the debate with an open mind and learn something about the other viewpoint. Jay Wile put it best in his recent blog post about the upcoming debate….
“For the creationists ….. they will hear from an evolutionist who actually believes in evolution. This will be good, because most likely, much of what they hear about evolution comes from creationists. For the evolutionists in attendance, they will hear about the creationist point of view from a creationist. This is also good, since most of them have probably never bothered to get the creationist view from someone who actually believes it.”
Many evolutionists think that creationists derive their viewpoints solely from the Bible and have no scientific evidence to back their beliefs. It is true that for most Christians, the Bible is enough, however there is science to support their beliefs. Ken Ham’s Creation Museum displays a lot of this evidence.
On the other hand, many creationists believe that evolutionists are all Godless scientists blindly following an atheist theory full of missing pieces bent on destroying their faith.
Both sides have much to learn.
It is my hope that the debaters leave the faith and supposed agenda out. The creation vs. evolution debate should be about science. The answers lie for both sides in the science.

Creation Science Information
I know evolution information is easy to find, however quality creation science resources are more difficult to find. If you are interested in learning more about creation science, Master Books is an excellent resource you might consider. They publish materials for the Creation Museum and other creation scientists and authors.
Another good resource is Creation Conversations, a website “Connecting Christians who believe in Biblical creation — discussing beliefs, sharing ideas, and recommending evolution-free resources.”
