Fun Kids Books

We have a voracious reader in our house and we have a “if it interests me” reader. My daughter will read about anything. My son is another story, so I am constantly on the search for fun kids books that grab my son’s attention and keep it. Not an easy task.
My son is 8 years old and all boy. “Made up stories are boring,” he tells me. But, he finds big books of facts overwhelming. We have found that he prefers biographies of adventurous people in history (currently Daniel Boone), fiction books that contain lots of action and no “girly stuff”, and magazines with simple pages of information.
Our most recent find fits his preferences perfectly.
DK Adventures
DK Adventures is the newest series from one of my favorite publishers, DK Publishing. Our favorite reference books for years have been the DK Eyewitness books.
Every time my daughter went to the library in her elementary years, she came home with one. When my son first started reading, DK Readers comprised most of his collection. They always held his attention.
We were excited when our friends at DK sent us the new DK Adventure series for the kids to review and to share with our readers. These fun kids books are written for the 8-11 age range and are a great mix of the Eyewitness Books and the readers.
The DK Adventure books contain short, exciting stories interspersed with fact-filled pages of relevant information. The stories are real adventures and the fact pages are filled with those fabulous graphics and images DK is known for.
I love when my son gets excited about what he is reading and has to stop and tell me details about Darth Vadar’s armor or about how a nuclear submarine works.
Check out all four books in the series.
We really liked each one. My son was a big fan of the Star Wars books. My daughter enjoyed the Horse Club, even though she is a little older than the target age. We all learned interesting things about life and explorations in the deep sea from Terrors of the Deep.
