I was chatting with some online homeschooling friends and I mentioned that my son was asking lots of questions about batteries, electricity and motors. Since, those are not my specialty, I asked my friends if they could recommend a resource or two. That’s when Colleen Kessler (RaisingLifeLongLearners.com) piped up and said she was actually in the process of writing a book – Electricity And Magnetism. I love having geeky smart friends.
A Science Book Written To Kids
Electricity And Magnetism is a fabulous ebook that is written directly to elementary students. The friendly style of writing is easy for them to understand and is very encouraging. It invites the student to engage.
There are over 25 lessons containing information, an experiment or project, notebooking pages and internet links for further study and information. This book could be used as a fun book of experiments for kids to do in their freetime, a unit study or as a curriculum supplement.
I loved the fact that this book has notebooking pages and charts for the kids to record information on. It’s not just a list of instructions with an “Good Luck!” message. It’s more of a “what happened and why?”. This encourages kids to actually think.
We plan on using Electricity And Magnetism as a fun Christmas time unit study for my son. The kids always get to choose something fun to study before and sometimes during Christmas break.
Kids Want to Jump Right In
As my kids and I were browsing through Electricity And Magnetism with me, they got really excited by this image.
We read the lesson that went with it and then the kids were off in search of a flashlight, some aluminum foil and tape.

This looks awesome! I tried using a free magnetism book from the ’60s with my older kids, but *I* was getting bored. 😀
Kid-tested recommendations are the best.
