When we need variety and fun in our homeschool lessons, I regularly turn to lapbooks. They are fun ways to learn new material or to review. I am always keeping my eye out for new ones we might be able to use. When I saw in the Elemental Science newsletter (sign up HERE), that the author, Paige Hudson, was working on new lapbooks, I got all excited!
The Homeschool Scientist reviewed Intro to Science, the kindergarten science curriculum from Elemental Science, back in June and I have been a fan ever since. It was fun, age appropriate, hands-on science. My 2nd grader and 6th grader thought it was lots of fun, too!
Elemental Science, currently, has 8 lapbooking titles with more on the way. All are available through CurrClick.com. Since my son just finished his plant unit through Nancy Larson Science, we decided to do the Lapbooking Through Plants as a fun review.
I was so impressed, once again, with the simplicity, yet thorough nature of Paige Hudson’s work. This lapbook could be used as a review, as we used it, or as a stand alone plant study using one of the two suggested books. (One of which I already had, and both could most likely be found at your local library.) Students of all levels could use the lapbooks, adding the appropriate amount of information to each section.
After printing and cutting out the lapbook pieces my son and I talked about each part of the plant and I asked him what he remembered. If he needed help, we looked it up in his Nancy Larson science booklet or in the Usborne Encyclopedia of Science. After our review, he colored the pieces, labeled, documented and glued all on his own. I counted it as his plant unit test – a fun test!
Elemental Science has offered to give a copy of Lapbooking Through Plants to a download copy to a reader of The Homeschool Scientist!

You can, also, check out all the lapbooking titles from Elemental Science at CurrClick.com. They are all on sale!!!
*disclaimer- Elemental Science provided me a copy of Lapbooking Through Plants for the purpose of review. The opinions are totally my own.

My 5 year old loves science and I would be interested to see these ideas!
So glad to hear that you all enjoyed the lapbook! And I love that you used it for a test at the end of a unit, what a great way to change things up. Thanks for the taking the time to write this review :).
We are planning to use Elemental Science this spring and the lapbooks look like a great addition. I think my daughter would enjoy them. We’re looking forward to our science plans this spring!
We haven’t done plants yet, but it is on the list. 🙂
This is a great way to supplement Nancy Larson! Thanks for the inspiration!
We use lapbooks all the time, in different ways.
My kindergarten student is still too young for notebooking, and he loves having a finished lapbook to show the grandparents/UPS delivery guy/everyone who knocks on the door.
My middle school daughter uses lapbook elements but puts them in her notebooks to keep them interesting.
We use them more as notebooks and glue them into what we’re already doing. But I love them.
We use them as supplements to regular curriculum, when it is weak or just plain boring. We’ve already tried the Periodic Table lapbooking, and are anxious to try others.
We love Lapbooks! We use them for everything! Science and Math!
My children have outgrown lapbooks, but I have not. I satisfy my need now with my grandchildren.
