A great deal of my children’s self-acquired scientific knowlegde comes from The Magic School Bus book series. We can be looking at honey bees in the clover at the park and they kids will tell me all about the pollen and the nectar and the process of making honey. I didn’t teach them that. They read it in The Magic School Bus Inside A Beehive.
Because of The Magic School Bus at the Waterworks, the kids know where their water goes when it disappears down the drain and they know where the water comes from when they turn the faucet on.
We even used The Magic School Bus Inside The Body to explain to my son what happens when you don’t drink enough water or eat the right foods. He found out your insides don’t like that. That explained his symptoms in a way that he knew what he had to do to fix them.
The Magic School Bus series is great for supplementing your science curriculum, for sparking curiosity, or for pleasure reading. The books are small, but packed with great, easy to understand info written into the storylines. The stories are fun enough that kids gravitate toward them and don’t even realize they are science books. It’s like stealth learning!
Scholastic has lots of Magic School Bus resources. There are Magic School Bus games, quizes and experiments on their website that partner with The Magic School Bus books. Their are lesson plans for teachers that use the books as their text and guide.
Pick up a couple Magic School Bus books for your kids and enjoy learning.
