The Mathsgiving Escape Caper!

Get ready for a Thanksgiving escape room unlike anything you’ve seen before! Our Mathsgiving escape room is interactive, colorful, and engaging.

Here at The Homeschool Scientist we are starting a new monthly escape caper/escape room feature and are super-excited to release our very first one.

As a parent who knows the ups and downs of learning differences, specifically dyscalculia, I created this project to help students of all abilities enjoy an engaging way to practice math skills.

We will also have some science-themed escape rooms too! (With math possibly mixed in!)

Many thanks to CTCMath for sponsoring these monthly resources that are totally free for the first two months. So, make sure you download them. Without CTCMath’s support, we would not be able to bring this free resource via the interactive platform.

In the Mathsgiving Escape Caper, students step into a world of puzzles, problem-solving, and a little bit of holiday mischief. As they work through each math challenge, they’ll unlock digital clues, solve on-screen games (including a fun matching activity!), and bring the whole story to life.

How Does the Escape Caper Work?

There will always be a digital and print version. The digital version will be more engaging and have a few more features that just don’t transfer well to paper. (to be honest!)

By using the request box below (in this post), you’ll receive a PDF with the instructions, link to the digital escape room, all of the corresponding worksheets where your child can show their work, and “screenshots” so you can do an “offline” version. (But I highly recommend using the digital version. It’s colorful and engaging.)

We have two versions – one for 3rd/4th grade and one for 5th/6th grades.

Whether your student is a kinesthetic, auditory, or visual learner, between the digital component, the sound effects and feedback, and the printouts, all of the learning styles are covered.

Why It Works

Whether your child loves math or finds it frustrating, The Mathsgiving Escape Room draws them in with bright visuals, humor, and hands-on variety.

  • Engaging for all learners: Great for students who need extra encouragement or learn differently.
  • Flexible pacing: Kids can complete the escape room all at once or in short bursts, perfect for homeschool days, centers, or morning warm-ups.
  • Printable worksheets included: Each digital challenge matches an optional printable page, so students can solve problems offline, too.
  • Low-pressure learning: It’s okay to take your time, laugh at the story, and enjoy the process.

How to Use This Thanksgiving Escape Room

Use the Mathsgiving Escape Caper however it fits your day:

  • As a holiday-themed review for math concepts
  • As a morning warm-up or fun Friday activity
  • As a break from bookwork that still builds problem-solving skills
  • For partner work or independent practice

Important Notes about the Mathsgiving Escape Caper

Ages: We have two versions – one for 3rd/4th grade and one for 5th/6th grades. BUT do check the problems in the printable pack, it may work well for one or more of your children.

More grade levels coming: The plan is to have a 5th-6th grade level and a 1st-2nd grade level for each monthly release.

If you’d like to see another grade level incorporated, please email michelle at thehomeschoolscientist dot com.

Ready to use and no assembly: This is truly a resource that is ready to use. There are no pieces to cut, glue, or assemble. Print the 7 worksheets where your child can show their work and access the escape room with the link and password.

Here are the worksheets, completion certificates, and the Feast Tokens earned after each successfully-completed Mathsgiving challenge. Everything is ready to print and use. No assembly required.

Thanksgiving escape room pages

Optionally, if you want to print the “screenshot” pages, you can.

Turn up the sound: Well, you don’t want it turned up too loud! But there are fun sound effects and encouraging words along the way. Optionally, if you are in a group setting or have another child that is easily distracted, ear buds are an option! 🙂

Thank you, again to CTCMath for sponsoring the escape rooms.

This escape room is geared towards third and fourth grades, but do check out the problems; your child may be ready for them. Next week, we plan to release one for first- and second-grade students, and another for fifth- and sixth-grade students.

This is a large PDF. We tried shrinking it down, but the resolution was not acceptable. So, please do not attempt to open on a mobile phone. 🙂 Thanks!
