24 Creative Printable Science Writing Prompts
In our homeschool experience, I have found science writing prompts very useful when teaching my children how to write. Learning proper spelling, grammar, and sentence mechanics can be stressful enough for students. Throw in trying to decide what to write can ruin the whole day. Been there?
If your student is a struggling writer, have them dictate their story to you or create an audio version!
We have used not only science writing prompts, but silly story prompts, holiday prompts, and have used prompts from our history lessons to help in our writing lessons. My kids will write with less fuss when they don’t think of it as learning to write.
Science Writing Prompts
Lately, I’ve been realizing that we can combine writing and, my favorite, science! We’ve been writing stories about the animals we’ve been studying. The kids have written poems about the changing seasons and the weather. Next week, I’m having them make a comic strip out of their science experiments.
It’s all writing and it’s all science. They are learning to write properly and they are learning more about science as they write about it. You have to love that!
I’ve been compiling a list of science writing prompts for future use. My plan is to have the kids write organically about what they are studying, but to also have some prompts on hand for extra writing practice. I’ve tried to make these extra prompts interesting so they will want to write about them.
