Ten Things I’ve Learned About Myself Through Homeschooling

10in10

I never thought I’d homeschool my kids, but here I am. We are finishing up our fourth year of homeschooling and I write a homeschool blog. If  you would have told me this 5 years ago, I would have told you that you were crazy!

To say that these past 4 years have been a change for our family, would be an understatement. I think the biggest change might be in me! As part of the iHomeschool Network’s 10 weeks of top 10 lists blog hop, I’m sharing 10 things I’ve learned about myself through homeschooling.

  1. I can teach my kids! Yep. I am teaching and they are learning! Who knew?
  2. I still find grammar monotonous and boring. Who’s with me?
  3. I can’t do it all. Although, I still try from time to time with disastrous results.
  4. I need alone time. I love my family, but I really need scheduled time for myself. Homeschooling gives me plenty of quality time with my family.  Sometimes, I need time off to recharge my batteries. An hour at the local coffee shop reading, an afternoon shopping (even for groceries!) by myself or an hour on Pinterest can work wonders.
  5. If I don’t have a plan for each day, nothing gets done. Period.
  6. I like history even more than I thought!
  7. I really like my kids. I always knew I loved them, but I have discovered that they are really awesome, unique, likeable kids.
  8. I need accountability to get projects finished. I tend to jump from project to project. We’ll get started on a big history project and then…oh cool! Look! We can learn about beehives. And then we are off building beehives with a half done Roman army in the living room. I need someone to keep me on track and finish what I start.
  9. I now fully appreciate the miracle working powers of coffee.
  10. I am a science geek! I guess I always knew it, but I used to be able to keep it hidden!

What have you learned about yourself from your homeschooling adventures?

Read what other homeschooling moms have learned at the iHomeschool Network’s 10 weeks of top 10 lists blog hop.

This blog hop is inspired by Angie of Many Little Blessings and her Top Ten Tuesday link up. I’ll be linking up there, as well.
