Wildlife Crossing STEM Activity
Highways and roads make it possible for us to go to the doctor, run errands, take vacations, visit family, and travel long distances quickly. However, these roads can also pose challenges for wildlife like deer, elk, bear, bobcats, coyotes, racoons, opossums, box turtles, and many more animal species. Private and state organizations have been partnering to provide wildlife crossing areas to help reduce wildlife and vehicle collisions.
In this A Brain-y STEM Labâ„¢ Challenge, your children will step into the role of a biologist and learn about wildlife crossings around the U.S. providing safe passages for animals like turtles, coyotes, elk, deer, and more. We have worked with organizations in three states to provide information, photos, and video links in this learning unit.
Your children will learn about this real-world problem and how STEM-based solutions are helping.
This resource can be used with multiple grade levels, including middle and high school. We provide ideas for taking the study further for older students.
