Boogie Board e-Writers For Handwriting Practice

When my children were young and learning to write, I bought tons of workbooks filled with letters, numbers, lines, and shapes all created with dashed lines meant to be traced. I downloaded printables with themes to go along with the time of year or closest holiday with similar traceable designs. I shudder to think how many trees had to die in order for my children’s handwriting practice.

Our family has been a big fan of Boogie Board e-Writers since they first came out. These portable e-writers allow you to write on a screen with a stylus and then erase with the press of a button. They are great for taking notes, making lists, leaving messages, doing math, and handwriting practice.

We now have 3 or 4 that we use for homeschool, doodling just for fun, and for lists and messages on our refrigerator. My youngest used his Boogie Board to help make handwriting fun. There were no lines for guides or letters to trace, but he enjoyed practicing his writing skills on something besides paper. It was new, novel, and if he messed up all he had to do was press a button and it was gone!

Boogie Boards For Handwriting Practice

The Boogie Board Jot 4.5 has a semi-transparent screen that allows you to see through to any of the 20 included flashcards in the attached card holder. These cards contain letters and writing lines that kids can trace with the build in stylus to practice writing skills. There is also a free iPhone app available to turn your phone into a flashcard to use with the Boogie Board Jot 4.5. This makes practicing math skills fun, as well.

I like using the new Jot 4.5 for tracing patterns or pictures. You could do this for fun or as part of a drawing class.

The size of the Boogie Board Jot 4.5 e-writer is a win, also. It is basically hand-held and small enough to easily fit in your purse or backpack. This makes it a great portable option to take learning on the road or to pack for road trip entertainment.
