The human body activities for kids we have posted here on THSS are among our most popular pieces of content. Kids are curious about how their bodies work. For example, they might ask what is sweat? What happens when a bone is broken? How do my eyes work?
The history of how we came to study and understand exactly how our bodies function is an interesting one that goes back centuries and spans many countries and cultures. Many scientists and innovators asked some of the same questions our children ask today, then spent their careers studying, observing, and discussing their findings.
We have created something very unique!
What You Will Receive
We have put together a printable lesson about 6 scientists and innovators (Louis Braille wasn’t a scientist per se, but an inventor and innovator) and their contributions to the study of the human body.
We’ll use these scientists and innovators as a jumping-off point to explore the heart, blood, muscles, vision, the immune system, skin, and touch through hands-on human body activities for kids that help them investigate, build, and experience. We have a separate printable to accompany each body system represented by these historical figures who helped shape what we know about the human body today.
You’ll receive a PDF with the biographies, along with links to six of our human body-related printables for each scientist or innovator.
This is a trip around the world and through the human body! Plus, we’ll pair it with history.

I hold a master’s degree in child development and early education and am working on a post-baccalaureate in biology. I spent 15 years working for a biotechnology company developing IT systems in DNA testing laboratories across the US. I taught K4 in a private school, homeschooled my children, and have taught on the mission field in southern Asia. For 4 years, I served on our state’s FIRST Lego League tournament Board and served as the Judging Director.
