Learn History Through Literature With Beautiful Feet Books
This spring, I took my daughter to a homeschool convention for the first time. She is entering the high school years and I thought she should pick out her own curriculum. I wanted her to see the different options and resources available.
Going in, we had a plan. We knew what subject areas we were looking for. We just needed to find the right curriculum to fit my daughter.
The two main subjects we were seeking were history and literature. We roamed up and down the exhibition hall looking at many wonderful options, but nothing felt quite right to her.
“If I could just read my way through history, that would be perfect”
No sooner were the words out of her mouth, when we saw the big banner…
—- History Through Literature—-
It was a sign from God. Really.
My daughter made a bee-line for the tables stacked with books under the Beautiful Feet Books banner. Could it be?
Her mesmerized gaze must have caught the attention of a super-sweet woman working the booth, Karyn. She asked my daughter what she was looking for and before I knew it, they were deep in conversation about books, reading and history. As my daughter’s face lit up, I knew we found what she was looking for. She was going to read through history.
I wish I would have taken a picture of my girl proudly carrying her big box of books from Beautiful Feet through the convention hall and out to the car. A picture of her trying to rip the box open in the car would have been good, too!
Needless to say, my daughter has already started the history/literature curriculum I bought for the fall. I couldn’t stop her if I wanted to!
What makes Beautiful Feet so special?
We have never been fans of dry history text books around here. My kids would rather read biographies, fictional history, and other historical literature to learn about our past.
Instead of trying to find these resources myself and make them fit to our history curriculum, Beautiful Feet has done the work for me. Beautiful Feet gathered the best literature and paired it with a timeline and a history text for background information and to tie the literature together.
As I watch my daughter with her studies, she dutifully completes each subject and checks them off the list. That is until she gets to her Beautiful Feet books. Then, she cuddles up and gets lost in them. When was the last time your child got lost in a curriculum?
What are the benefits of Beautiful Feet curriculum?
The literature aspect of the Beautiful Feet history program is what attracted us, but as we get in deeper, these are some of the wonderful benefits I see to the Beautiful Feet Curriculum.
- Perfect for students who love to read
- History and a literature curriculum in one
- Great for independent learners
- Much more than a dry text book
- Makes history come alive
- Includes many types of literature
- Places Biblical and secular history together chronologically
- History feels more personal when told through literature
What Beautiful Feet Books curriculum are we using?
When we started our search for curriculum, we knew a couple things. First, we were looking for high school level history and literature. Second, my daughter wanted to study the ancient world again. That made our choice easy.
We went with the Ancient History Senior High Pack. This is a one-year study which includes detailed study notes, writing and research assignments, vocabulary, maps, and web links, as well as, high quality literature written by award winning authors.
My only regret is that we didn’t find Beautiful Feet sooner. Beautiful Feet has curriculum from 1st through 12th grade!  My daughter is already looking forward to the Medieval history pack she gets to do next!
