My goal here at The Homeschool Scientist is to show that science is anything but dry and boring. Science is alive, exciting, and fun!

Make science fun at your house with these simple tips.

Simple Ways To Make Science Fun

Do Experiments

Science is a hands-on endeavor. Grab an experiment book from the library or Amazon. Find an experiment that interests the kids and then do it!

Don’t worry about the mess. You are having fun with your kids, remember? Allow them the freedom to experience one of the most fun parts of science!

Get Outside

Nothing gets kids excited about science like nature. Whether it is in the backyard, the nature trails, the zoo, a local botanical garden, or a local pond, kids learn so much by being outside without even knowing it. Let them explore and observe. (Download these FREE nature observation printables.)

Take A Field Trip

We love field trips! Visit a local farm, museum, zoo, botanical garden, factory, or nature center. Go somewhere interesting that shows science and scientists in action.

Play Games

Who doesn’t like to play games? There are lots of games, traditional and online, that let kids have fun with science. You can play math games with flash cards, play science trivia games, or play fun chemistry games on a tablet. Even a game of I-Spy helps kids hone their observation skills.

Add Some Science Fun To Everyday Life

We tend to compartmentalize science. We put it in a little box labeled “test tubes, microscopes, and lab coats”. We generally don’t think of science as something that is around us everyday. The truth is that it is part of us and a part of everything around us. We need to get our thoughts out of the box.

Making a conscious effort to acknowledge science in everyday life is a great way to raise children who are scientifically literate and who appreciate it as well.

I love bringing science into everyday life and having fun with it. I was just introduced to a very fun science business, Xanthines Cafe. The owner, Tamykah Anthony, is a scientist who noticed that “too many children were afraid of science and never got to discover the beauty of it.”

Tamykah had the idea to incorporate the concepts, language, and structures of science into everyday items and everyday activities that kids enjoy. So, she created the cutest science-themed products that you can use today with your kids.

Make science fun with items from Xanthine's Cafe

From jewelry to cookie cutters, Xanthines Cafe  has awesome new ways to bring science into your life! Wouldn’t it be great to do a dolphin-themed day with dolphin books, dolphin videos, and dolphin shaped cookies? How fun!

Making Science Fun

While Xanthines Cafe has may awesome products, I think my personal favorite is the microscope cookie cutter. It would be great for a science themed party and use these for cookies or clay along with the beaker and test tube cutters.

I know you and your kids would have so much fun with the microscope cookie cutter. I want you to have one! Enter the rafflecopter contest below and win a microscope cookie cutter from Xanthines Cafe!!
