Apple Orchard Notebooking Pages
One of our favorite fall family traditions is taking our yearly trip to a local apple orchard and farm. There is apple picking, apple tasting, apple cider, apple cider donuts, the corn maze, petting zoo, and more. We usually make an afternoon of it.
It’s also part of a farm. A trip to an apple orchard is a great opportunity to do experiments with apples, learn the apple life cycle, and learn about farms, farm animals, and crops grown on farms.
Apple Picking Tips:
- Check their website for hours of operation and what varieties are in season. Better yet, call because websites may not get updated during a busy harvest season.
- If you want to pick yourself, make sure they offer that option. Many times you have to schedule this ahead of time.
- Wear closed-toe shoes because it could be muddy or there might be uneven ground.
- Wear sunscreen
- Pick only what you plan to purchase. And if someone in your party starts to eat the apple, it’s yours to purchase.
- Later in the season usually means sweeter apples, but the trees may be picked over.
- Bring a cooler with water. It can get hot out in the orchard.
- Ask orchard staff for help.
- Don’t yank the fruit off. Twist and tug it off gently.

One of the highlights for our kids is the tasting area where the orchard has 5 or 6 of their featured apples available for the public to sample. Each apple is labeled with its taste characteristics and what the apple is best used for (eating, baking, canning, etc.). I created apple orchard notebooking pages to take advantage of this tasting area and to turn it into a learning experience.
These printables will allow your students to make and record their own observations about apple trees, the characteristics of apples, and anything else about apples and their trip to the orchard they would like to write about. Just fill out the form below and a download link will be sent to your inbox!
We also have some fun farm pages and links to other resources to make this an opportunity for your preschool or kindergarten-aged children to learn about farms.
