For The Love Of Rocks
I have two boys. My husband is a golf course architect with a degree in landscape architecture. It’s safe to say they have a thing for rocks. Small rocks. Smooth rocks. Colorful Rocks. Big Rocks. They like them all. They want to keep them all.
Oh the rocks they’d find. Unfortunately I was not gifted with a love for rocks.
Not until I saw their amazement over each individual rock. Each different uniquely formed rock. Each rock they’d find was as if they had just opened a Christmas gift.
What I saw as ordinary rocks they saw God’s treasures. A treasure David would use to stand up against a giant bully and take him down!
A Geography Matters lesson opened our eyes to different types of rocks. We watched Amazing Science videos from Master Books and the formation of rocks at our state national parks!
We planned a family vacation to Yellowstone and Yosemite last fall!
We became rock hunters, together. We became rock climbers, together.
Not climbing a rock any time soon? That’s okay – go on a Rock Adventure and print Handbook of Nature Study’s Rock Study Printable {free}! Or learn about different types of rocks in this Rock Word Hunt!
Most importantly share scripture with your children!
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18:2
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. Psalm 40:2
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. Matthew 7:24-25
