Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the holiday season here in the United States. It’s the unofficial end of fall and of winter. It’s about family, togetherness, gratitude, and science.

Yep.

Believe it or not. Thanksgiving science is a thing. Wondering how in the world this can be?

Think turkey studies, fall leaf studies, pumpkin studies and activities, learning about feathers, food experiments, fall nature studies, fall weather studies….. The options are endless.

At The Homeschool Scientist, I have put together a ton of ways to study science with a Thanksgiving season theme. I have always found that kids love studying within a seasonal theme. They are a little more excited about it and it takes the monotony out of school work.

Check out these Thanksgiving science and STEM ideas to use with your students.

I hold a master’s degree in child development and early education and am working on a post-baccalaureate in biology. I spent 15 years working for a biotechnology company developing IT systems in DNA testing laboratories across the US. I taught K4 in a private school, homeschooled my children, and have taught on the mission field in southern Asia. For 4 years, I served on our state’s FIRST Lego League tournament Board and served as the Judging Director.  I own thehomeschoolscientist and also write a regular science column for Homeschooling Today Magazine. You’ll also find my writings on the CTCMath blog. Through this site, I have authored over 50 math and science resources.
