valentines day activity cube

When my kids were younger, we always started the day with a little physical activity. It worked wonders to get the wiggles and extra energy out so they could concentrate on school instead of merely vibrating around the room.

In the warmer months, the kids would ride bikes, scooters, skateboards, or roller blades around the neighborhood every morning for a bit while I cleared away breakfast and got school ready to go.  Sometimes, we would go for an early morning hike on local trails all together. As the weather turned too cold to go outside, we got creative.

Keeping kids active indoors without them trashing the house can be tricky. Over the years, we have tried things like kids exercise videos, good old calisthenics, dancing, Twister, and Simon Says. I was always on the look out for fun games and activities that were holiday themed, as well. This kept things new and fun.

Valentines Day Activity Game

Valentine’s Day Activity

One of my kids’ first and favorite games was a  soft cube that they rolled on the floor. Each side of the cube was a different color, and each color had action cards that went with them. Whoever rolled the cube had to do the action on the chosen card.

The actions on the cards were fun things like skip around the room, walk like a bear, dance like a ballerina, and do a somersault. My kids liked this game way past the younger ages it was geared toward. It is pretty funny watching your 13 year old son dance like a ballerina.

This fun Valentine’s Day activity cube is based on the same concept. Roll the cube. Do the action. The actions are all Valentine’s themed, so it is perfect for your Valentine’s Day parties, theme days, or just to add holiday fun to your day.

I hold a master’s degree in child development and early education and am working on a post-baccalaureate in biology. I spent 15 years working for a biotechnology company developing IT systems in DNA testing laboratories across the US. I taught K4 in a private school, homeschooled my children, and have taught on the mission field in southern Asia. For 4 years, I served on our state’s FIRST Lego League tournament Board and served as the Judging Director.  I own thehomeschoolscientist and also write a regular science column for Homeschooling Today Magazine. You’ll also find my writings on the CTCMath blog. Through this site, I have authored over 50 math and science resources.
