Free Zoo Escape Room for Kids
Free Zoo Escape Room for Kids: Can You Solve the Animal Mystery?
Do you have an animal lover in your house? Grab your pencils and get ready for a trip to the zoo!
Our Zoo Escape Room is a free printable activity created especially for elementary students. Kids will work their way through zoo-themed challenges, solve clues, and use their problem-solving skills to complete their mission.
And this escape room is a little different from the ones we usually create. In fact, you might want to complete our rainforest unit and rainforest escape room, this free animal habitat resource, or our wildlife crossing STEM challenge with printable.
Some of our favorite zoo websites include
- The North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro, NC, is our favorite zoo. If you are ever in the area, it is a must-do! They have some animal lesson plans videos online.
- The Monterey Bay Aquarium has a website packed with animal cams, videos, and learning resources. If you cannot visit in person, take a virtual zoo tour! They even have online classes for preschool through high school!
A Printable Zoo Escape Room—No Computer Needed!
Most of our escape rooms include a digital component, but we know that isn’t the best fit for every family, co-op, or classroom.
Sometimes you want an activity you can simply print, hand to your students, and get started.
So that’s exactly what we created!
This printable Zoo Escape Room is completed entirely on paper. There are no Google Forms to open, no websites to visit, and no computer or tablet needed to solve the challenges.
Just print the student pages, grab some pencils, and you’re ready to begin.
A Fun Zoo Activity for Animal Lovers
If you have a child who loves animals, you already know how much fun a zoo theme can add to the school day.
Instead of simply completing another worksheet, students have a mission to accomplish. They’ll need to pay attention to the information they’re given, look for clues, solve each challenge, and figure out what they need to do next.
The zoo theme makes this a fun addition to an animal unit study, a lesson before or after a zoo visit, or simply an activity for a child who can’t get enough of animals.
Why not add some other fun resources? Here are our animal habitat cards, a STEM activity centered around wildlife crossings,
Escape Rooms Get Kids Thinking
One of my favorite things about escape rooms is that kids are practicing important skills while they’re focused on solving the mystery.
As students work through this zoo escape room, they’ll need to:
- Read and follow directions
- Pay attention to details
- Look for patterns and clues
- Use logical thinking
- Solve problems
- Check their work
- Keep trying when an answer isn’t immediately obvious
And they may not solve every challenge on their first try!
That’s part of the fun. Going back to the clues, reconsidering an answer, and trying another approach gives students practice working through a problem rather than immediately giving up when something doesn’t work.
Who Can Use This Zoo Escape Room?
This printable escape room was created for elementary-age students and can be used in several different settings.
Try it during your homeschool day, in an elementary classroom, with a homeschool co-op, or as a small-group activity. It can also be a fun addition to a zoo or animal unit study.
Students can work independently, with a partner, or in small teams. Depending on the age and reading level of your students, younger children may appreciate having an adult nearby to help with directions or provide a hint when needed.
Everything You Need Is in the Printable
We’ve made this activity easy to use.
The student pages immediately follow the introduction in the printable. Simply print the student section and give the pages to your young zoo investigators.
You’ll find the complete answer key after the student page section, so you’ll want to keep those pages tucked away until the adventure is over!
Because the entire escape room is completed on paper, there’s no special technology to set up before you begin.
