Earth Day is celebrated each year on April 22 since 1970. It was originally proposed Sen. Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin as a day to educate the public about the effects of pollution on the environment. Today, Earth Day is observed in over 192 countries as a celebration of the Earth and to bring awareness to environmental concerns.
There are so many ways to celebrate Earth Day with your kids. You could take the scientific approach and learn about the earth and environment or you could make fun crafts. This year, we are doing a little everything with theĀ activities from We Are Teachers.
Do you do lapbooking in your homeschool? We have used lapbooking from the beginning. Both kids use it differently. One likes to put the entire lapbook together and the other likes to use the lapbook printouts as a way to take notes to learn material.

We usually celebrate my husbands birthday, but recycling happens on a daily basis, so lots of time spent talking about how we can reuse things or repurpose them.
I think it is important to not only talk about the importance of Earth Day to my family and my students but to also show them examples by living and doing projects daily. For example/recycling, upcycling, picking up trash in the park were we sometimes go for recess, walking instead of driving,using rags instead of using so many paper towels, use earth friendly products, et cetera.
We love Earth Day! It helps us reflect on things we do all year long!š
Every year I have my children sort through our waste, talk about ways we can recycle (donations) and help decrease waste and an earth craft.

We planted 14 trees around our neighborhood and it felt wonderful
